about me:
Hello! My name is Jestine. I ran my first 1/2 Marathon in October 2016 as a bucket-list item and hated every moment of it.
I took a year-long break, probably gained more weight, and practically lived a sedentary lifestyle.
In January 2018, one of my best friends suggested we run another race together. At the time, I wasn't in such a good place in some aspects of my life and I needed some sort of outlet to distract myself. I decided to give running another chance and signed up for a teaching clinic at our local Running Room.
I've since learned about the basics of running - biomechanics, hill training, intervals, and building endurance during #longrunSundays. Thanks to my coaches, teammates, and friends, I've conquered three half-marathons (Tamarack Ottawa: 2:11:58 / Toronto Waterfront 2:00:16 / Burlington Chilly 1:56:17) and a fun *unexpected* 5 km run (25:10) with minimal injuries. I've also started incorporating some weight-lifting, snowboarding, and playing amateur volleyball as a form of cross-training. I realized how important fitness/physical activity is to me, and have fallen in love with the grit of training and the camaraderie that comes with enduring long runs and playing in a volleyball team.
I'm using this little corner of the internet to chronicle my thoughts during training (and other musings).

When I'm not running, you'll find me at work (I'm a registered speech pathologist!), napping, drinking coffee, immersed in a book, or eating... so there may be occasional posts about these :)
